Then there great numbers of artists who are completely self-sufficient. They trust their own opinions, and possibly those of a few other trusted people, above those of anyone else. They are confident of their own visions and artistic impulses. They may appreciate positive responses but are generally indifferent to them. They work for a variety of inner reasons, many of which began in their childhoods, and for income. Their profession is art, and they will do it, day in and day out, regardless of the opinions of others, as long as they can manage to put food on the table.
